About
Faith, family, community. Together we make a difference.
We're a non-denominational Christian church rooted in two hundred years of Methodist tradition and open to anyone who walks through the door.
Who we are
A church that stayed.
The first meeting house in Pleasant Vale was built around 1810 and was open to anyone who wished to preach. Over the years it was Methodist Episcopal, then the Stevenson Union Church, then Riverside United Methodist, and today Riverside Community Church. The name has changed. The welcome has not.
We are small on purpose. Small enough that you'll be missed if you're not here, and that a newcomer is noticed and greeted rather than lost in a crowd. We believe in a God who loves us, in the grace of Jesus Christ, and in showing up for one another and for our neighbors in Oxford.
The church building is owned by the Stevenson Union Church Association, formed in 1897 to see the congregation safely through the building of the Stevenson Dam. That's still its job, more or less.
Leadership
Meet Pastor Hal
Pastor Hal Hunt
Pastor since 2014
Pastor Hal has led Riverside since 2014. You'll find him at the red door after every service, and he'd love to meet you.
The Women's Society
The backbone of the church
Organized soon after the present church was built, known over the years as the Friendly Club, the Zoar Club, the Women's Society and the Women's Society of Christian Service. Dinners, card parties, bake sales, aprons sewn from 21½ yards of percale, and the Holly Fair have paid for repairs, sent kids to camp, and kept this church open for a century.
